AMT Electronics started with Sergei Marichev, an employee of a Russian Defence enterprise, making electronic music equipment in the old Soviet Union where no Western technology was available. In 1987 when private enterprise began to be allowed, the Asia company was started. After a few years this became AMT and the company focused primarily on guitar effects. The company specialises in analogue distortion pedals and has an extensive range alongside some bass effects and a compressor. Originally these pedals were designed purely by ear as Sergei had no other information to go on and the sounds he has captured speak for themselves. If you need a good distortion pedal look no further. All pedals are 9V battery or DC in and are housed in solid metal casing.

UK delivery on AMT pedals will be £5

CALIFORNIA SOUND      £85

You might be able to guess what the California sound might be referring to! This pedal has an emphasis on the mid-range and produces a seriously harmonically rich distortion. Even with the drive control right down there is still a fair bit of gain and pinch harmonics are ridiculously easy. With the drive wound up the amount of gain is very high and there is fantastically smooth singing sustain. The low and high controls give you enough range to fine tune your sound and the level gives you enough to drive your amp if you want. The output can also be used direct into a PA or mixing desk as it is frequency compensated.

Not the pedal for those subtle edgy sounds, but if you want some fat , high gain sounds this is the one for you.

FATAL TUBE        £85

This pedal is intended to give you the sound of high gain valve amp and it succeeds admirably. There are two distortion controls: Drive and Gain which give you two different voicings - essentially one  vintage and one modern. Both voicings can be dialled in together for the full on distortion experience. The Low and High tones give you a wide sweep of tones and the contour gives you added control over the midrange. The level control has a large amount of extra level to drive your amp as well - so be careful! This is a great pedal for getting 80's rock tones with plenty of gain but not fizzy or thin -this gives you a sound that is very warm and rich. However there are also good, less distorted tones making this usable for many other styles. The output is frequency compensated so you can use this straight into a mixing desk or PA.

For £85 this is well worth having in your gigbag as it gives you plenty of sonic options and can even be used without an amp.
