		BUDDA AMPS
		Budda were one of the first companies to recognise the growing demand for lower powered valve amps that sounded huge! Starting with the Twinmaster in 1996, an 18 Watt Class AB amp that was designed to replicate the tone of a 100 Watt stack in a small package. The Budda range is all hand wired in San Rafael in California and now consists of the Superdrive 18, 30, 45 and 80 available as heads or combos. All the amps are class AB with the 18 and 30 using EL84's, the 45 using KT66's and the 80 using 6L6's. Unlike a lot of manufacturers they use their own custom Phat 12 speakers, which certainly sound the business to us.
The amps are footswitchable dual channel with shared tone controls, the rhythm channel having a pull bright control for real sparkling sounds and the midrange a pull 'modern' control to alter the tonal spectrum for a more modern sound. The 45 features a switchable solid state/valve rectifier to allow switching to a tighter response. The Superdrive 18 Combo is a fantastic way of obtaining a huge rock sound in a surprisingly lightweight package - this comes highly recommended and should be high on your list of amps to check. If you need something for the larger stage then the 30 or 45 head fits the bill to perfection and provides as much volume as you can cope with. These are great rock amps producing classic sounds that are superbly sensitive to finger and pick attack but with that modern flexibility we expect in this day and age. The smaller amps are loud enough for any gig but you can get that great sound without killing the first few rows of the audience. We shouldn’t forget the great clean sounds these amps are capable of; with the pull bright on the rhythm channel they have a real clarity and shimmer.
