LITTLE GREEN WONDER OVERDRIVE £169 A superb little overdrive pedal with a sweet tone and a bit of added versatility. As soon as you plug this in you notice the great note separation even at full tilt - arpeggiate a chord and there is not a hint of mud. There is not as much compression as you might get with most other pedals so it is a very dynamic pedal responding instantly to your pick dynamics and any guitar volume changes. The body control acts as a treble boost going clockwise and a low-mid/treble boost going counter clockwise rather than simply backing off the treble as most pedals do - in the centre position there is a slight mid boost. This pedal is particularly good in conjunction with other pedals or the overdrive of a good valve amp as its clarity allows the other sounds through without muddying up the mix. There is plenty of level available to drive an amp or give those solos a boost. Highly recommended!

DEEP BLUE DELAY £199 Already a bit of a legend amongst those who have heard it - a great analogue/digital hybrid delay. The direct signal path is all analogue with a digital delay section that feeds a restricted bandwidth analogue output stage and the pedal is of course true bypass. The delays are passed through a tuned filter to give them that musical feel rather than the more clinical sound of an all digital delay - a nice lo-fi sound. You get delay from 25ms up to 450ms in a very compact package with nice simple controls which are great fun to fiddle with while the repeats die away! Turn it up to infinite repeats and you get a fantastic wall of sound! The DBD is particularly good with distorted tones - filling out the sound in a very musical way. This is not the pedal if you want exact control over the repeats or tap tempo etc but if you want a small, analogue style delay that won't colour your tone and will fill out the sound then this is the pedal for you.

MIGHTY RED DISTORTION £169 Classic 80s compressed distortion in a bright red box! Not over the top metal but plenty of distortion on tap bringing out loads of screaming harmonics - just dig in. The presence control tweaks the high end nicely tuning things to your amp and guitar. As with all Mad Professor pedals the high headroom design gives a good signal to noise ratio which only adds to the impressive note separation. |

FIRE RED FUZZ £165 Some wonderfully compressed sustained can be squeezed out of this pedal but it can also be subtle with some nice warm mellow fuzz. The tone control gives you a range from rich full mellow tones round to a thin trebly bright sound. The Fuzz control gives a surprising number of usable tones including some nice quite subtle ones - this is not just a crank everything up pedal, there are others sounds worth of a bit of experimentation. Fuzzes tend to have their own unique sounds and this is no exception - it isn't intended as a vintage clone but what is does is does very well and with the minimum of noise (except the ones you intended!)

TINY ORANGE PHASER £209 Tiny maybe but you get two distinct phasing effects in this little box. Turn the mix clockwise and you get a subtle, lighter effect giving almost a vibe type sound - a great alternative to chorus to fill things out. Counterclockwise on the mix and you have a deeper more classic effect able to get up to some serious warbles with the speed up full. The resonance control is like a tone control for the affect , making it more cutting as you turn it up. As you might expect this has a very nice musical tone enhancing your guitar sound.

SKY BLUE OVERDRIVE £175 A seriously well voiced overdrive with some great tweakability from the Z and texture controls. The texture control alters how the sound distorts - clockwise gives a slight treble boost but less dense distortion, counter clockwise and you get more saturated denser distortion which tends to emphasise the midrange more. The Z control adjusts the load on the pickups (if the SBOD is first in the chain) and also controls how the guitars volume pot will taper for adjusting the volume rolled off settings - subtle but it can just sweeten things up. This is a very natural sounding overdrive with great dynamics, low noise and plenty of signal to drive your amp as well if you need it. Words cant do it justice really - you need to hear it!
|
MELLOW YELLOW TREMOLO £175 Designed to work like the classic 50s amp tremolos with the incoming signal modulated by a sinusoidal oscillator. A depth range that takes you from subtle wobbles up to nearly full on/off cycles and speed from the barely perceptible to a nice fast shimmer. The pedal also features a very useful level control which can boost the signal when the trem is kicked in as there can be a perceived loss of volume if the effect is quite deep. You would think all tremolos should sound much the same but they all have their own character and this one is particularly warm and musical.
