Here at Jam Guitars we have had a lot of experience with MIDI guitar systems. Pete has used one live for a number of years and knows how to tweak parameters to get the best response from your guitar whether is has an internal or external pickup. MIDI guitar is not for everyone without a doubt but for versatility on stage when you don't want the hassle of a keyboard or the rigidity of a sequencer, it is the right solution. A well set up MIDI guitar can track surprisingly well - yes you need to be precise, but there is no harm in sharpening up your technique! The one thing to always bear in mind is to play to the sound you are using - you can't bend strings on a piano so don't try and also to use phrases and harmonies that are appropriate - especially with horn sounds. We are dealers for the Axon AX100 which we think is one of the best tracking guitar synths around especially in conjunction with a piezo pickup such as on our Brian Moore Guitars or those used by Godin. A piezo pickup can be retrofitted to a standard guitar using a product such as the RMC Powerbridge or the LR Baggs X-bridge - this then needs to be fed through the requisite electronics such as the RMC Polydrive or a modified Roland GK pickup. External magnetic synth pickups are relatively easy to fit and can be attached without damaging the guitar although it is worth attaching the pickup with screws if you are a bit more physical with your playing. Whilst an external pickup works fine we would recommend a dedicated piezo equipped guitar if you are serious about your MIDI guitar. If you need a pickup fitted then we can carry out the work here at Jam Guitars. | |||
