The Tonebone story started in 1976 with Peter Janis and Denis Rozon when they started making valve distortion pedals and amps. Radial Engineering was started in 1992 making a variety of studio and live sound solutions such as their renowned DI boxes. The Tonebone range was launched by 1999 by Denis Rozon and became part of Peter Janis' Radial engineering in 2002. As with many designers Peter and Denis set out to create their ultimate pedals and the Tonebone range whilst naturally excelling tonally are also packed with genuinely useful features. The range includes a variety of valve powered distortion pedals with an impressive list of users including Eric Johnson and Neal Schon - no strangers to great guitar tone. All the Radial tube pedals are true bypass.
Radial also make some very useful true bypass switching units and preamps under the Bigshot name with solutions to some of those problems you may not have realised you had! All prices include UK delivery except £3 charge for Big Shot pedals less than £100

Classic £179 Perhaps more of a valve preamp than a distortion pedal given the range of tones on offer. The name sums it up really, classic distortion sounds from the 50s 60s and 70s are on offer here and they are very good. There are 5 basic controls - Level, High and Low EQ, Filter and Drive; these are coupled with 3 switches for top end, mid boost and drive gain giving a huge array of options. The Top End switch is very useful for tailoring the high end to particular guitars or amps and the mid boost can make a big difference in getting solo tones to cut through. The three levels of gain take the pedal from subtle edgy drive through to big rich distorted sounds. The valve really makes its presence felt and playing through it has the feel of playing through a valve amp especially in its dynamic response but the pedal is very quiet. The Filter control interacts with the High EQ control and tailors the balance of the treble frequencies shifting the overall tonality to balance the pedal with the amp. This is a serious pedal that can provide a wide range of sounds, it is built like a tank and sounds fantastic. Comes with 15V power supply. |

Hot British £179 A Plexi in a box - classic British distortion sounds with a wide array of tone shaping options. Controls here are Level, High and Low EQ, Contour and Drive coupled with Top End, Voicing and Mid Boost switches. The Top End control is great for matching the pedal to guitar or amp whilst the voicing control gives you the option of a classic scooped mids tone, a thicker mid boosted fat tone or flat tone. The Mid Boost is great way of tailoring a solo tone that can cut through the mix. There is plenty of gain on offer here giving plenty of sustain and some crunchy rhythm tones. The contour control tweaks the mid frequency to suit amp and guitar and boosts or cuts depending on the voicing switch. A hugely versatile pedal based around a superb core tone with the sound working at all levels of gain not just flat out. The valve makes a huge difference to this pedal giving great dynamic response and even harmonics. As with all the Tonebone pedals built to last. Comes with 15V power supply. |

![]() | Got a couple of great amps that you want to use but are happy with just the one speaker cab (or that is all you have room for)? What you need is the Headbone - a wonderful solution for just this problem. The Headbone switches the guitar input and the amps using photocells and relays controlled by a timer chip in such a way as to ensure that the amps are never run without the speaker connected. The Headbone comes in three flavours - VT for two valve heads, SS for solid state heads, and TS for a valve and a solid state head in combination. A 'Slingshot' input allows the Headbone to be operated remotely using a normal footswitch or from any MIDI board that has a contact closure output. The Headbone has a safety default setting even if power is lost.

Cabbone £229 If you need to switch your amp head between two different cabs, you need a Cabbone. Just like the Headbone the switching is carried out through a series of photocells and relays controlled by a timer chip that ensures the amps are never run without a load. With the 'Slingshot' remote control a standard footswitch can be used to switch the unit remotely - similarly a MIDI footswitch can control the unit if it has a contact closure output.

Loopbone £229 Keep noisy pedals out of your signal chain with two switchable effects loops coupled with a built in transparent gain boost on an additional footswitch. The Loopbone has Radial's Drag pickup correction which ensures that the pedal presents the same load to the guitar as an amp would - this can be adjusted to suit the guitar. Class A circuitry throughout ensures the clearest tone and no loss of signal. The Loopbone has a 'Slingshot' output so that it can control any of the other Radial pedals or your amp - this can be assigned to any of the three footswitches and can be either latching or non-latching as required. The Loopbone has a permanent tuner output as well.

EFX Loop Switcher £69 Two switchable effects loops in one tiny box with true bypass switching and a ground lift for each loop. A great way to keep the noise down in your signal chain when effects aren't being used, completely bypassed with a pure signal path to your amp. With a loop switched out you can switch individual pedals on or off in silence before bringing them all back with the push of one button. Button 2 can be set up to mute the output as well as switching in the loop so it can be used to to run a tuner as in the middle diagram below. The pedal can also act as an amp switcher with a tuner connected as the bottom right diagram shows. A truly versatile little box that can make a big difference to your setup.

I/O Instrument Selector £69 A simple straightforward unit that does exactly what you expect - switching between two instruments. There is a tuner out to keep a tuner in play and there is a mute button for silent tuning - there is the option to have the tuner switched on all the time and the swtich just operating the amp mute. On the B output there is a level control so that you can match the outputs of two instruments to keep the volume constant and also a bright switch to compensate for any long cable runs (although with a Solid Cable that wouldn't be a problem!). As with all Bigshot pedals the I/O is true bypass to maintain the best signal path you can get.
