Like a lot of amp companies, WKZ arose out of Martin Wisbey's quest for the perfect tone - the sounds he heard on the classic records but never quite seemed able to realise with the amps he tried. It has taken two years to get the amp just right and incorporate some more modern features for extra versatility but the wait has been worthwhile! The nice thing about WKZ is the extra features don't complicate things - you can just plug in your guitar and play. The gain boost does exactly what you expect and is ideal for getting the extra sustain and level you need for solos, coupled with the two master volume settings you get a very controllable amp for live use.
This amp achieves what it sets out to and gives you a 70's rock sound and then some. The core tone is classic EL34 giving you really musical distortion which is easily controlled from the guitar volume but with the option of higher gain settings for more modern metal tones. The tone controls have a good useable range and the overall feel of this is responsive and powerful. The sound is always full and rich with plenty of 'thump' but also plenty of clarity. For anyone wanting classic rock tones this is a must try.
